About One Church

One Church is an exciting, enthusiastic Christian community based in the heart of Gloucester, UK. We are passionate about our faith, but recognise that church is more than just singing, attending church and praying – it’s about Loving God, Loving People and being Committed To Excel.

Up until the end of 2009 we were named ‘Robinswood Church’, after our location on the side of Robinswood Hill – read below why we changed our name. In early 2009 however, we began a conversational journey to discover a new name for the church – looking for something that represented our heart more than our address. We have One Life – and we believe in empowering people to fulfill their purpose in it, we have One Goal – it’s the unity among every person and department that will help us grow together, and we serve One God. These three statements are encapsulated in our new name; One Church.

We try to be a ‘church that makes sense’. So whether you’re brand new to church, or maybe it’s just been a while, feel free to join us some time on our journey to becoming a church that impacts a city.

We would love to see you at One Church so why not drop in to one of our Sunday services:

Service 1: 9.15 – 10.30am
Connect on Sunday: 10.30 – 11.15am
Service 2: 11:15am – 12:30pm

So why did we change our name from Robinswood Church to One Church?

1. Geography. The name Robinswood ties us to a particular location within our city. Our mandate however, is the whole city and the surrounding area. Gloucester City Church would be a good name but it’s already taken! Also, as our profile grows nationally and internationally (in terms of mission) the word ‘Robinswood’ has no meaning whatsoever.

2. Culture. What does Robinswood Church mean? Does it describe us to the community we are trying to help? Frankly, no. However, One Church creates dialogue and definition. I stress we are not THE One Church but one of many.

3. Biblical definition. Founded on the scripture Ephesians 4:1-7, it speaks of unity, purpose and Christ-centredness. Which is the clearest message we can give to a lost world.

4. Name NOT nature. The name change does not change who we are. It simply enhances it.

I hope this helps you understand where we are up to on this incredibly exciting journey. The future is bright and purposeful, and we see our church being part of it!”
